Archivos Vivos / Living Archives: The 1990s T-Party Legacy in L.A. is a multimedia performance that draws from an evolving archive of oral histories, photographs, graphic ephemera, personal collections, and community memory, inviting audiences to experience history as something living rather than fixed.

Its inaugural presentation explores the legacy of Los Angeles’ 1990s T-party movement, weaving together personal narrative, archival imagery, live DJ performance, original sound design, and storytelling to trace how nightlife became a space for artistic experimentation, chosen family, cultural resistance, and belonging. More than a celebration of nightlife, the performance honors the cultural producers, artists, DJs, organizers, designers, and community members whose creative labor shaped a vital chapter of L.A.’s cultural history.

Rather than presenting history as something fixed, Archivos Vivos activates the archive through music, personal testimony, projected imagery, and collective memory. By transforming archival materials into performance, the work creates an immersive experience that preserves cultural memory while fostering intergenerational dialogue, ensuring these stories continue to resonate with new audiences.

Participant Bios

DJ Solecito (Sol Alvarez) is a Los Angeles-based DJ, cultural producer, educator, and founder of Broadcast Buffet, a multimedia platform dedicated to documenting the city’s creative communities through sound and storytelling. Building on a foundation of arts education and community-based practice, their work centers on preserving underrepresented histories within Brown, Black and queer communities. Through live DJ performances, collaborations, and archival projects, DJ Solecito approaches sound as both narrative and memory, using music to capture and communicate cultural experience. Their work explores the intersections of sound, space, and identity, creating immersive environments that reflect the cultural pulse of L.A.

Archivos Vivos is organized by Sol Alvarez as part of the 2026 Circa: Queer Histories Festival, presented by One Institute.
